The future isn't going to write itself: Join us for cocktails and a conversation about story, social justice and the art of bearing witness.
Today, more than ever, the stories of those most impacted by social injustice need to be heard. But how do we challenge those who seek to “disappear” stories that speak truth to power? And how can we use our own stories to break through ideological barriers during times of high political conflict?
On Thursday, May 22nd, the visionaries behind the just-launched Center for Story & Witness - human rights journalist Jimmie Briggs, author and gender justice activist
Anne K. Ream, and novelist and Yale University lecturer in creative writing R. Clifton Spargo - will explore these questions during a conversation moderated by movement builder, author and Random House Executive Editor, Jamia Wilson.
They’ll also speak to how Center for Story &Witness (formerly The Voices and Faces Project) is creating a global chorus of writers, artists, activists, and witnesses using
story to create social change.
Hosted by Rachel Foster and Alain Kodsi, this will be a night of conversation, community and – of course – cocktails. See you there!

With reproductive freedom experiencing unprecedented rollbacks in the wake of the overturning of Roe v. Wade, women’s bodily autonomy and lives are under attack. Now is the time to educate ourselves about the implications of legislation already passed and to take action to make sure that we protect our hard-won rights and not further regress. This timely panel will feature three award-winning writers offering their valuable perspectives and visions of a path forward.
Presenting a Friday evening book signing with Jamia Wilson, in celebration of her most recent book, MAKE GOOD TROUBLE! MAKE GOOD TROUBLE is inspired by civil rights activist and congressman John Lewis’s call to challenge injustice. This engaging and informative handbook features more than 70 narratives of global activism throughout history―including the Newsboys’ strike of 1899, the Freedom Summer Project of 1964, Greta Thunberg’s first School Strike for Climate, and students against book banning. Packed with history to inspire you, and resources to guide your future action, this is a book for people of all ages and uniquely suited for our present moment.
Drop by any time between 5 and 7 p.m. to pick up a copy for yourself or a friend and meet the inspiring author herself. We’ll see you there!
Join us for a fun filled event with Jamia Wilson, Vice President & Executive Editor at Random House, an award-winning feminist activist, writer, speaker, and podcaster who has partnered with Gloria Steinem, Jane Fonda, and Cecile Richards, release of her upcoming title, Make Good Trouble. The book was inspired by civil rights activist and congressman John Lewis’s call to challenge injustice. In conversation with founder of the Me Too Movement, author, and Time Person of the Year for 2017, Tarana Burke.
The time is always right, but it’s especially poignant at this time in our lives to learn real stories about big and little-known moments that changed history and discover what you can do to make a difference, whether it’s about climate change, racism, feminism, LGBTQIA+ pride, disability, and more.
This book and the authors are the perfect combination for a conversation about engaging, inviting, and powerful activism.

January 10-14, 2025: Art of Self-Worth Alumni Retreat
I started 2024 off with the Art of Self Worth community in January, and our time together was so magical that we’re celebrating our growth and making new connections in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. Let’s go! Whether or not you join us in Mexico, you can join us on a virtual journey through our BE online membership community, which offers a dynamic and supportive online community.
Follow a practice with Lisa Weinert and Jamia Wilson to bring awareness to the body before you begin writing, and learn the power in telling your story.
When we sit down to write, we bring many histories with us, in the form of identity markers, family members, ethnicities, religions, race, geography, and more. Let's take a breath here and inquire: Who else is present?
Our ancestors—whether from our own genetic line or any other influence in our lives—can bring inspiration, direction, connection, and belonging. In this weekend retreat we explore who we bring with us to the page—and how they can help.
We listen closely and gain understanding of how these voices inform the words that come through us and onto the page. As we learn that we are not alone, these muses, protectors, and in some cases threats, can also help us distinguish which is our true voice.
This intimate immersion provides structure and resources to help us meet our goals in a vibrant and diverse community of writers. Together we learn to surrender to the story that needs to be told, including the ones we’ve inherited.
Join a roundtable discussion on vital topics in the publishing industry with executives representing various departments of the publishing powerhouse.

Join inspiring women leaders who want to spark hopeful change–at home, at work, and in their communities–for a weekend of deep conversations and meaningful experiences.
These times call for talk: critical conversations about the pressing issues roiling the world. The kind of talk that plumbs hard truths and also reaches across differences to create connection. The kind of talk that is the antidote to breakdown and the stimulus for breakthrough.
This conference is an invitation to talk, to listen, and to pose and answer questions that women across generations and around the world are asking: How do we redefine power and practice it with compassion, even as we stand strong for rapidly eroding rights? How do we keep joy and creativity alive while facing simultaneous existential threats? How do we care for the suffering in our own neighborhoods and across the globe, and still find energy to dream a new way into being?
Join us for conversations and panel discussions between inspiring conference speakers and participants—about our work, our families, our communities, our despair and grief, our big ideas and bold plans. Come to learn, to be in community, to rest and care for yourself, so you can leave refreshed and ready to do power differently at home and in the world.
