To begin to understand Jamia Wilson, I realized quickly, was going to take a much wider perspective than I was accustomed to. So pleased that BBC did this feature and is helping to shine a light on the need for more diversity in children's literature! As of last year only 4% of children's books in the UK contained a BAME main character. We hope this can start to lead to a change so more ethnic minority children can see themselves in books.
