Writing to Protest: Advocating Conversations on Equality, Anti-Racism, and Social Justice
Children’s literature has become a revolutionary form of protest adopted by many marginalized voices. Despite a lack of #ownvoices representation and oft-fierce backlash, these authors reclaim their power and offer a jumping-off point for conversations around inclusivity. Many children inherit biased language and concepts from generations before, and authors Jamia Wilson, Tiffany Jewell, and Vita Murrow work to undo this damage and inspire young people to speak up and disrupt racist and biased institutions.
